Along the route, you will have the chance to learn about the Darefrutto Foundation, a non-profit organization engaged for several years in the regeneration project of the San Marzano Mercurina Estate, a rural heritage of Lomellina located in Pieve del Cairo. This historic property, dating back to the 1700s and nestled in rice-growing lands, includes two farmhouses: Cascina San Marzano and Cascina Mercurina. It features a vast forest of ancient alders (formerly a hunting reserve), home to a heronry and an old hunting lodge linked to Piero Portaluppi, a backdrop to events from the years of lead recounted in Mario Calabresi’s book “Quello che non ti dicono,” published by Mondadori.
